Founded in 2026 by Maya Mehta and Diya Chatwani, Boston Ni Baaje is Boston’s first official national-level intercollegiate Garba-Raas competition. For us, dance is not just an activity, it is a passion, a community, and a family. It serves as an outlet for expression, identity, and connection, especially for students who have found belonging through Garba-Raas. This event is rooted in that experience and aims to bring it to a larger stage and spread the community in the greater Boston area.

This competition was born from the success and heart of Northeastern Nakhraas, one of the nation’s most recognized collegiate Raas teams. The team’s consistent top-three ranking in the national circuit have elevated Boston’s presence in collegiate dance, creating a platform to celebrate, strengthen, and expand the city’s South Asian dance community. The team believes it is time for Boston to establish its own national Garba-Raas competition, one that honors heritage, uplifts student performers, and builds a lasting cultural tradition in the city.

Boston Ni Baaje will host 6+ competitive teams (200+ students) from universities across the country at the Huntington Theatre, with an anticipated 400+ live audience members and a nationwide livestream.

Boston Ni Baaje is currently working towards registering as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, a percentage of proceeds from the event will go toward the American Heart Association. This event is also an opportunity to uplift businesses that value diversity, culture, and community engagement.
